  • First month is orientation

  • From 2nd month onwards you see OP and posted for 3 months with each consultant.

  • Depending on your consultant, you are started on steps in retinal surgeries by 3rd month

  • You get steps in all retinal surgeries till the end of fellowship. Chances to do independent cases at the end are very few.

  • You also get hands-on for macular and RD surgeries and even some ILM peeling steps

  • Clinically you get to see good number of retina cases in OP

  • You also get to do retinal lasers and give intravitreal injections

  • ROP exposure is minimal since not many cases

  • Limited onco exposure, treatment is usually in conjunct with Oculoplasty dept

  • Uvea cases also seen and treated in VR dept

  • No phaco training.

  • Dept is hectic but chill

  • Work timings 9- 5.30 pm but can go till 7 pm sometimes

  • On call- you have at least 1 night call per month, 1 Sunday is hospital on call, another Sunday you are posted in their peripheral centre.

  • No camp duties.

  • Classes every day at 7.30 or 8 am, compulsory attendance for all fellows, common class for all fellows.

  • Overall, you get steps for common retinal surgeries but still need more experience post fellowship to become an independent surgeon.
