Comprehensive Ophthalmology Fellowship review

  • 1-2 fellows taken every year

  • Selection- interview (online/walk-in)

  • Stipend 40k (no caution deposit)

  • Accomodation provided outside campus, 5k monthly charges


  • Over 2 years, you are rotated every 2-3 months between diff specialities.. there you see OP and also attend OT.. you may get steps or cases to do in some specialities


  • In 1st month you are started on dry lab and wet lab

  • Then 2nd month onwards they start you on SICS

  • You get OT twice a week, one case per ot initially, gradually increased as you get confident

  • You share OT with PG residents when doing SICS

  • Phaco training starts when you are good at SICS and can manage on your own, they may start within first year itself if you request them and they feel you are proficient

  • Or else if you are a totally newbie to surgery then you might do only SICS for first 1.5 yrs and then get phaco in last 6 months

  • You also get advanced cataract cases


  • No training for complication management, the consultants manage your complication

  • No topical phacos


  • Classes every day at 8 am (half hour class), except on Wed and Sat when they start at 7.30 (1 hour class)


  • OP starts from 9 am, goes till 5 pm

  • On call duty- night calls once a month, 1 Sunday duty a month, 1-2 camp duties per month

  • Dept slightly hectic, not toxic, consultants are approachable


  • You will be familiar with phaco by the end and be able to operate some advanced cataracts but no training given for complication management.

  • Also, exposure to other speciality procedures/ surgeries is variable.
